How to Choose The Right Outdoor Location in Wichita, KS
When you’re trying to decide on the best location for your photo session in Wichita, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. But I’m here to help! For outdoor couples sessions in Wichita, you have quite a bit of freedom…I always like to ask my couples what they like to do together, where they spend the most time, and what exactly they want to remember from these images we’re going to create. A spot like the Great Plains Nature Center (shown above) is always perfect for laid-back, natural couples and engagement photos in Wichita.
This session took place in early Spring and the couple wanted a simple Kansas backdrop to go with their casual, neutral outfits. The tall golden grass and green trees made for the perfect location. This spot is also great because there are walking trails, mature trees, and a spot down by a pond that we can easily walk to during your session as well. For this particular session, we wanted to stay in the tall native grass.
This session was taken right at Golden Hour to give us the prettiest, golden glow that just peeked through the tree row behind us. Here’s a few more spots that I love for couples sessions in the Spring:
Botanica — Perfect for couples who want a more curated, floral-filled backdrop… with gorgeous blooms all season long! It’s best to plan sessions for weeknights here to avoid the crowds.
Pawnee Prairie Park — Similar to Great Plains but on the West side of town. A wide-open, natural setting with lots of walking trails, tall grass, mature green trees, this spot feels like you’re in your own world far away from the city.
Sedgwick County Extension Arboretum — A favorite Wichita photo location for photographers and couples alike. It’s a beautiful little garden next to a wooden walking trail which gives you two totally different vibes for your gallery in one spot. It can also get busy so this spot is best for weekday sessions.
Bloominglass Farm — Totally secluded, just North of Wichita near Sedgwick, KS, I’ve found a stunning cut-flower farm that I absolutely love for any type of session. This space is beautiful and you get to cut your own bouquet of flowers to take home with you after the session. Here’s a family session that I did at the flower farm last August.
What To Wear For Your Couples Session?
This is the most common question when planning for any session, and I like to tell my couples not to overthink things here. It’s important to wear something you feel comfortable in, and that matches both the season and the location. For outdoor couple’s sessions in Wichita, you have quite a bit of freedom here though! You can do anything from a sundress to a simple tank and jeans. It’s all about your style, really. Generally speaking though, try to stick with neutrals that coordinate well together, not that match exactly. If you’re both wearing the exact same shade of blue, it’s going to feel like too much.
